Records, Evidence and AI: Standards, Policy and Preservation
Writing, speaking and international standards work on how records keep their evidentiary value as government and organizations automate, informed by a career in federal electronic records policy.
Author of MetaArchivist, international conference speaker, and ISO standards delegate working where records management, archival theory, digital preservation and information policy meet.
Andy Potter retired from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration as Senior Electronic Records Policy Analyst. That background in federal records law and policy shapes everything he writes and presents: close reading of primary sources, attention to how rules work in practice, and a steady focus on what makes a record trustworthy evidence.
He serves as a delegate to ISO/TC 46 (Information and documentation), with liaison responsibilities to ISO/TC 171/SC 2, and follows the records management, metadata and preservation standards developed across those committees.
Through MetaArchivist, Andy publishes long-form analysis on AI and the evidentiary record, federal records appraisal, archival labor, and the standards that hold recordkeeping together. He speaks at international conferences on standards development and the impact of AI on information and documentation.
